Spring storms can strike anytime, bringing hazardous conditions such as damaging winds, tornadoes, large hail, and flooding. Being prepared can keep you and your family safe.
Safety tips to remember:
- When thunder roars, go indoors. Move from outdoors into a building or car with a roof.
- Turn Around. Don’t Drown. Never drive through flooded roadways. Just six inches of fast-moving water can knock you down, and one foot can sweep your vehicle away.
- Know tornado signs. Watch for a rotating, funnel-shaped cloud, a cloud of debris, or a loud roar like a freight train.
- Identify a safe shelter. Use a small, interior, windowless room or basement on the lowest level of a sturdy building. Practice your plan with your family.
- Include your pets. Make sure they are part of your emergency plan.
