OMU’s Cavin Water Treatment Plant became operational in 1994 with an original capacity of 10 million gallons per day (MGD). The plant was expanded to 30 MGD in March of 2021 and now serves all of the drinking water needs of both OMU customers and those of two water districts which serve the surrounding areas: East Daviess County Water Association and Daviess County Water District.

Located at 4067 KY-144, Cavin Water Treatment Facility provides water for all of Daviess County – approximately 100,000 customers.

The Cavin Water Treatment Facility is named after William R. Cavin, in recognition of his service to the community. William R. Cavin served as a former chairman of the OMU Utility Commission as well as a prominent civic leader, colonel in the U.S. Army, along with service in the Army Reserve, and retired President of Wright Machine Company.
