Located at 4067 KY 144, the William R. Cavin Water Treatment Facility provides drinking water for communities throughout Daviess County, serving approximately 100,000 people.
The facility began operating in 1994 with the capacity to treat 10 million gallons of water per day. An expansion completed in March 2021 increased that capacity to 30 million gallons per day, strengthening OMU’s ability to meet the region’s water needs well into the future.
At the facility, groundwater drawn from a deep underground aquifer is treated, tested and prepared for distribution. The facility supplies water to OMU customers as well as customers served by the East Daviess County Water Association and Daviess County Water District.
With three times its original treatment capacity, the Cavin facility plays a central role in providing a safe, dependable water supply to homes, businesses and communities throughout Owensboro and Daviess County.
Honoring William R. Cavin
The facility is named in recognition of William R. Cavin and his service to the community. Cavin was a former chair of the OMU Utility Commission, a prominent civic leader, a colonel in the U.S. Army and Army Reserve, and the retired president of Wright Machine Company.
