OMU Hydrant Flushing Week: April 13 – 17, 2026

Owensboro Municipal Utilities (OMU) Water Distribution crews will conduct their semi-annual system-wide hydrant flushing the week of April 13–17.

Crews will begin in the northeast part of Owensboro and work their way toward the southwest throughout the week.

Why is hydrant flushing important?

Hydrant flushing is a routine but essential part of maintaining a safe, reliable water system for our community. This process helps to:

  • Remove sediment and mineral buildup from water mains
  • Improve overall water quality and clarity
  • Ensure fire hydrants are fully operational for emergency use

Regular flushing is one of the ways OMU proactively maintains the integrity of the water system and continues delivering high-quality water to our customers.

What to expect:

During flushing activities, customers may notice:

  • Temporary discoloration of water
  • A slight drop in water pressure

These effects are normal and should clear up quickly.

If you experience discolored water, simply run cold water for a few minutes until it clears.

OMU appreciates the community’s patience and understanding as we perform this important maintenance. For questions regarding this process, please contact OMU at 270.926.3200.
