Water leaving Owensboro Municipal Utilities’ Cavin Water Treatment Plant is routinely tested to ensure it meets all state and federal regulations including those related to lead.

Treatment

As a part of OMU’s treatment process, phosphate is added to the water before entering the system to help maintain the integrity of the piping infrastructure within our system and your home. Phosphate treatment prevents corrosion within the distribution system and minimizes the potential release of lead into the water.

Identification & Monitoring

As OMU continually repairs and improves the water distribution system, we confirm and inventory the various components to monitor, address, and comply with ongoing Environmental Protection Agency regulations.
