October is Public Power Month Join OMU as we celebrate the many benefits of publicly owned utilities

Owensboro Municipal Utilities is celebrating more than Public Power Month this October — we’re also marking 125 years of serving our community.

Each year, OMU joins more than 2,000 publicly owned utilities across the country in recognizing the many benefits of municipal utilities. To learn more about the advantages of public power and the history of your own municipal utility, visit our Celebrating Public Power page. While October is Public Power Month, we’re also celebrating the water and internet services that help power homes and businesses throughout Owensboro.

Gift Certificate Giveaway

Starting October 1, OMU will give away five $125 gift certificates to our customers. Winners will be announced each Wednesday of the month — October 1, 8, 15, 22, and 29. For details and to enter, visit our Celebrating Public Power page.

LED Bulb Giveaway

On each Wednesday in October, customers who visit the OMU Customer Service Center on 2070 Tamarack Road can receive a free LED light bulb. According to the U.S. Department of Energy, LED bulbs use 75% less energy and last up to 25 times longer than traditional incandescent bulbs — saving you money and time. Learn more about LED lighting at energy.gov.

Customer Appreciation Lunch

OMU’s Volunteer Team will once again serve a Customer Appreciation Lunch on October 9 at our Customer Service Center at 2070 Tamarack Road. Beginning at 11 a.m., enjoy hot dogs, hamburgers, chips, dessert, and bottled water. Meals will be available through drive-through pick-up under tents for your convenience.

Free Document Shredding

OMU will once again offer a Free Document Shredding Day on Wednesday, October 22 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at our Customer Service Center at 2070 Tamarack Road. As a reminder, please remove documents from binders and remove any large clips.

Thank You

As we celebrate Public Power Month and 125 years of service, OMU is grateful for the trust and support of our customers. Our story has always been about local people providing local service, and we’re proud to be part of the Owensboro community. Thank you for allowing us to serve you — yesterday, today, and in the years to come.
