Take time now to prepare for strong and potentially dangerous storms

The National Weather Service has predicted a strong and dangerous weather event for our area which could last through the weekend. This storm front is expected to include high winds, record rainfall, and hail.

OMU crews and personnel are on stand-by and preparing for the effects of this weather event.

Please take time now to prepare for these storms by securing items outside your home including umbrellas, trampolines, unsecured gazebos and pergolas, lawn furniture, grills and similar items. These items can become projectiles and result in power outages.

Storm Preparedness

Strong storms such as this can result in extended and larger scale outages. As you prepare for this impending weather, please take time to:

Develop an emergency response plan and communicate it to your family.

Charge cell phones and auxiliary charging devices.

Maintain an inventory of batteries for devices you rely upon.

Charge lighting sources such as lanterns and flashlights.

Know how to open your garage door without power.

Maintain enough non-perishable food for 72 hours.

Disconnect sensitive electronic equipment.

Outage Reporting

A storm of this magnitude could result in larger scale power outages.  As a result, phone lines may become overwhelmed. We appreciate your patience as our crews address any issues coming out of this storm.

Internet Outages

In addition to power outages, internet service could be interrupted during storm conditions. Although we understand the importance of internet access, please wait 24 hours prior to reporting a telecommunications service interruption during storm or crises related events.

Safety Precautions

Storms can result in downed limbs and power lines. Assume any downed line is energized and report it by calling 270-926-3200. Please do not attempt to move downed lines or limbs or trees that may become entangled. Keep others, including pets, away as well.
