Owensboro Municipal Utilities (OMU) crews will conduct Fall Flush Week, the utility’s semi-annual water line flushing, beginning Monday, October 5, through Friday, October 9.
Crews will work from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. each day, beginning in the northeast area of Owensboro and progressing southwest throughout the week.
As part of the process, crews will open fire hydrants throughout the water system to flush the water lines.
Why is hydrant flushing important?
Hydrant flushing is a routine but essential part of maintaining a safe and reliable water system. The process helps to:
- Remove sediment and mineral buildup from water mains
- Improve overall water quality and clarity
- Ensure fire hydrants are fully operational for emergency use
What to expect
During flushing, customers may notice temporary discoloration or cloudiness in their water or a brief drop in water pressure. These conditions are normal and should clear up quickly.
If you experience discolored or cloudy water, run your cold water for a few minutes until it clears.
