Summer Safety: Water meters can present a tripping hazard

Throughout the OMU water system, there are more than 27,000 meters. These meters are housed in a cylinder (or jar) and topped with a cover. They look much like a small manhole cover. They are positioned in yards, in easements, next to sidewalks, and other accessible locations. Often these are unnoticed and easily overlooked.

However, they can present a trip or injury hazard. Take time to learn where water meters are located at your home or business. Be aware of meters when walking or running. If you notice a missing or damaged cover or are concerned about the visibility of a meter, please call OMU at 270-926-3200.

At your home or business, ensure a technician can easily read your meter by providing clear access and trimming nearby shrubs, grass, and trees.
