OMU is proud to join over 2,000 public utilities nationwide in celebrating our customer-owners. OMU will celebrate Public Power Month in a number of ways.
Power Run/Walk
OMU’s 10th Annual 5K Power Run/Walk will be held on Saturday, October 28. This annual event is open to both runners and walkers, featuring a flat/fast course.
For the $20 entry fee, participants will receive a long-sleeved event t-shirt, entry for door prize and award eligibility. Entries received prior to October 11 will be guaranteed a t-shirt in their selected size.
After October 11, the cost will increase to $25. T-shirt sizes will be based on availability.
As the event is in the Halloween season, we do encourage costumes and awards will be given to the most creative ones.

Customer Giveaways & Drawings
Public Power Month celebrations include giveaways to our customers throughout the month of October. On each Friday in October, those visiting the Customer Service Center at 2700 Tamarack Road will receive a free gift while supplies last.
Visitors throughout the month can also provide an entry for door prize drawings.
Why public power
Owensboro Municipal Utilities’ mission is to serve our community by providing reliable quality utility services at the most economical cost. The local utility has been serving its customer-owners for the past 117 years, delivering water and electricity to the citizens of Owensboro.
As a public power provider, customers have a voice in the decisions made by their utility. The Owensboro Utility Commission is appointed by the Mayor and City Commissioners and holds open public meetings to discuss and make decisions affecting the utility and its customers. OMU is not in the business of making a profit, and dividends are not paid to investors. Rates pay for maintenance and reinvestment in the utility and the community it serves.
Customer-owned utilities, including OMU, are committed to conservation, environmental stewardship, and safety.
Most recently, OMU received a 94% satisfaction rating when it surveyed its customer-owners. Proud of this rating, OMU is not resting on it, as it continually works to improve the services it provides.
